Metro World Kids kicks off school reopening in Eldos

“We have social workers at school that intervene and speak to children to find out the real problem."

As part of their school reopening programme, Metro World Kids (MWK) Johannesburg visited Eldorado Park Primary School.

The aim of the visit was to assist new learners on their first day of school and giving guidance to the returning learners.

First day of school can be stressful if not nerve-wracking for children as they get exposed to an environment filled with a lot of kids and new experiences.

MWK’s motto for January is ‘Be a light to others’ and this aims to educate returning learners on helping the new ones in navigating this new big environment.

Focusing on children between the ages of 6-13 years old, they believe that it’s better to raise boys and girls than repair adults.

Glisson Niekerk, Director at MWK explained that, “In a world that could be dark in terms of confusion, negative influence and I don’t have enough at home, today we taught learners to be the light by helping others kids out on their first day of school and to lead them to the light.”

School is the best time of each learner’s life and it is important for children to have fun while doing their best in their academics. However, some children shy away from school because of bullying and it not being a safe space form them.

Carlette Muller spoke about the impact of bullying and the importance of reporting a bully to the teachers. The school has junior leaders who will not only assist the new learners to get familiar with the environment but they are there to help prevent bullying from taking place.

“We have social workers at school that intervene and speak to children to find out the real problem.

“Because in most cases there is an underlining that leads to bullying, it can be parents on substances or being exposed to gender-based violence. They then think it is normal to attack somebody,” said Muller.

Metro Kids Africa deal with character building lessons for kids where they give a top truth that kids walk away with every month. Their main goal is to ensure that children grow up to be great leaders.
