Heerengracht Primary School wins athletic sports champion for the third time

Heerengracht Primary School in Eldorado Park has once again showed its hard work and dedication in sports by recently winning the Athletics Sports Champion for the third time in row.

According to the school’s sports master, Allison Trompeter, in preparation for this year’s tournament, the school acquired a professional coach who participated in both national and Gauteng sports competitions0 to come train the learners as well as a few staff members who are on the sports committee.

“I had no doubts that the students would prevail in the athletic sports tournament because they had put in so much preparation.

“I always tell them to trust in God and have faith in themselves, and they did just that. I’m really proud of them, and it made me very happy to see them bring the victory home,” said Trompeter.

The competition had 14 schools from different parts of Eldorado Park and the programme featured a variety of sports, including sprint, cross-country walking, long jump, and short put.

One of the top athletes, Lemondre Adams said he made sure to train hard every day in order to get ready for the competition.

“Being among the best athletes excites me greatly since in previous years I found it difficult to participate in sports competitions due to my poor speed.

“However, the coach who was present to provide us with training truly made sure that we were fit enough to compete,” said Adams.

The majority of learners at Heerengracht Primary School have qualified to compete in the district championships.

“The fact that we have won the tournament each of the last three years is astounding and incredible.

“This achievement encourages us as educators to keep supporting learners who are passionate about sports and to demonstrate to them that everything is achievable if they work hard,” said Heerengracht Primary School Principal, Eden Daniels.
