On July 27, Diepkloof Siblings hosted a youth conference in Diepkloof to address social issues affecting young people, especially young men.
Formed in 2020, Diepkloof Siblings consist of youth from various Zion churches in and around Diepkloof. Their mission is to foster unity among Zion youth members and provide mutual support.

Mpumelelo Masondo, chairperson of the Diepkloof Siblings organisation explained the group’s activities and said,
“We aim to unite the youth, share the word of God, and teach skills like carpentry, tiling and building. We’re also working on getting accreditation to apply for sponsorships.”
Now in its third year, the conference reinforced the group’s vision and mission, focusing on youth empowerment. Organisations like Khoroni Men’s Forum and Let Us Grow were invited to speak, with a special focus on young men.

Lerato Magongwa from Let Us Grow, a men’s drop-in centre, spoke about their services and the importance of attending such events.
“Statistics on men’s health issues such as HIV/AIDS, TB and prostate cancer are rising. It’s crucial to inform young men about these issues to help reduce these diseases,” said Magongwa.

Dumazile Jiyane-Mabaso, the General Secretary of the Diepkloof Siblings, highlighted the need for churches to create engaging activities for the youth.
“Churches should organise fun activities like camps and conferences to keep young people involved and doing well in church,” said Mabaso.
The Diepkloof Siblings plan to host more events, including couples’ seminars and career days, to offer the Diepkloof community a fresh perspective on Zion churches.
