Pimville residents celebrate refurbished sports complex

The Pimville community came out in force to witness the highly anticipated opening and handover of the Sanlam-sponsored refurbished multipurpose sports complex at Thembu Primary School on October 11.

The collaborative efforts of Sanlam Retail Mass (SRM) and the Pimville United Brothers and Sisters NPO (PUBS) made this momentous occasion possible.

The event drew an array of high-profile personalities, including SRM executives Bongani Madikiza, Unathi Masoka, Vicky Reddy and Reggie Mtshali.

Also in attendance was the Gauteng member of the provincial legislature, Matshidiso Mfikwe, Ward 22 Clr Sebenzile Mabuza, Ward 25 Clr Cambridge Kwapeng, musician Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse and legendary footballer George ‘Best’ More.

Thembu Primary School’s refurbished sports complex officially opens thanks to Sanlam and PUBS NPO. Local leaders and sports legends join in the celebration, ushering in a new community development and empowerment era.

Former teachers, heads of departments, School Governing Body members, and parents also joined in the celebration.

Kwapeng thanked Sanlam and PUBS, challenging other corporations to follow suit.

Mfikwe congratulated the school, emphasising the need to preserve the facility for future generations.

The PUBS’ chairperson, Kunya Tseke, stressed the significance of education and sports and the blossoming relationship between the NPO and Sanlam.

The school management was grateful for Sanlam’s gesture.

A fun-filled day

The learners enjoyed an action-packed day of music, exhibition games, performances, a six-a-side football game, tennis and netball matches, a choir, gumboot dancing and lunch for the learners and guests.

Sanlam’s generous donation

Sanlam donated an array of essential items to the learners, including netball and soccer kits, golf T-shirts for tennis, caps, school bags, sanitary towels and toiletries.

This event marks a milestone in the community’s development, and Sanlam’s commitment to empowering education and sports is commendable.
