Fashion Week continues to empower local designers

The Soweto Fashion Week features a diverse line-up of 45 designers, comprising of 15 established designers and 30 young upcoming local designers.

Sta-Sof-Fro Soweto Fashion Week has again ignited the fashion landscape with its spring/summer collection.

The seasonal lavish fashion show was held at Soweto Theatre, from October 31 till November 2. The glamourous and packed event showcased diverse fashion styles.

The event saw models showcasing a unique narrative from the spring\summer collection, as the catwalks came alive with vibrant arrays of designs, colors, and patterns that captivated the audience.

Soweto Fashion Week founder, Stephen Manzini, said the Soweto Fashion Week featured a diverse line-up of 45 designers, comprising of 15 established designers and 30 young upcoming local designers.

“Around 400 garments were showcased throughout the week. We had beautiful different looks that our talented designers presented,’’ said Manzini.

Soweto Urban News spoke to two fashion designers who showcased their collection.

Co-owner and designer of T-Hannes Clothing, Sandile Mkhwanazi, stated that his fashion lineup offered a diverse array of styles, highlighting his craft through meticulous attention to detail and a range of innovative, high-end designs.

“With these fashion lines, I have pushed a message that it’s okay to express yourself. I want people to see me through my designs and learn to be themselves and not be afraid to express themselves in any way,’’ he said.

He expressed his excitement for participating in the fashion week and acknowledged Manzini for the wonderful chance he has given to upcoming local designers.

Representing the South West Gauteng College, young upcoming local fashion designer Zwannda Ramaligela said her designs are inspired by her daughter.

“As part of the 13 designers representing the college, we showcased unique and beautiful designs,’’ she said.
