Father and son busted for cash-in-transit robbery in Diepkloof

Suspects were arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and defeating the ends of justice after the vehicle was recovered at their residential address.

The police arrested two men aged 25 and 53 in connection with a cash-in-transit heist on November 16, in Diepkloof.

It is reported that at approximately 16:00, a cash van en route to collect cash from one of the stores in Diepkloof Square was intercepted by an old E-class Grey Mercedes Benz at the corner of Immink Road and Letsoaka Street in Zone 3.

“The driver of the cash van lost control. The van rolled, and was attacked by approximately 15 armed suspects who used explosives to break open the van, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash,” Gauteng police spokesperson, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said.

”The van driver sustained injuries to his right side, while a 21-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and is receiving medical treatment. Nearby house windows were damaged due to the explosion.”

Sibeko further stated during the preliminary investigation it was discovered the suspects were father and son.
