Dobsonville young aviators take flight
Kiddies Hope Academy’s Future Pilots Programme inspires a new generation of aviation enthusiasts.
Kiddies Hope Academy (KHA) recently hosted its annual Future Pilots Programme (FPP), an innovative initiative designed to inspire and educate young minds about the wonders of aviation.
Thirty children from the Dobsonville-based school embarked on an unforgettable journey, starting with a comprehensive tour of OR Tambo International Airport.
They introduced the youngsters to various aspects of aviation operations, including check-in procedures, aircraft maintenance, and safety protocols.

The excitement reached new heights as the children boarded a flight to Durban, with many experiencing air travel for the first time.

Upon arrival, they enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at King Shaka International Airport, interacting with airline staff, meeting the captain and cabin crew, and gaining valuable insights into the roles of different aviation professionals.
According to Xolani Sithole, a representative from KHA, the programme is an integral part of the school’s career expo and yearly syllabus.
“We believe learning should extend beyond the classroom,” Sithole explained.
“By exposing children to various career options, we empower them to dream big and understand their future is limitless.”
The programme, now in its fifth year, has seen over 1 000 children participate since its inception.
The initiative, fully sponsored, ensured no child had to pay for the experience.

KHA’s initiative will continue throughout the month, with planned trips to Cape Town and East London before the December school break.
The graduation ceremony for this year’s programme is on December 16 at the Roodepoort Theatre.
Sithole emphasised the programme’s impact on building confidence and inspiring township children to pursue ambitious careers.
“Our black children must learn that anything is possible. This project instils confidence and shows them they can pursue any career.”
The academy thanked parents and sponsors, FlySafair and LIFT Airline, for their support in making the programme a success.
Through initiatives like the FPP, KHA continues to pave the way for a brighter future, fostering hope and ambition in young minds.
