Man caught with unlicensed firearm in Eldos

Gang-related tensions lead to the arrest of a man in possession of a 9mm Glock in Eldorado Park.

The Eldorado Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit and Gauteng traffic wardens arrested a suspect found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during routine crime prevention duties in Ext 3, Eldorado Park, on January 9.

According to Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, the Eldorado Park SAPS media liaison officer, the arrest followed a tip-off from Crime Intelligence about a gang-related fight at the Westgate Flats in Ext 3.

“The information indicated that five individuals were reportedly armed, and a detailed description of them was provided. Acting on this intelligence, officers immediately proceeded to the identified location,” explained Khobo.

Upon arrival, the team spotted one suspect fitting the description.

“The individual appeared suspicious, carrying a sling bag on his right side. Upon noticing the police van, he attempted to flee.

“However, our officers acted swiftly and apprehended him on Kremetart Street, opposite Westgate Flats,” Khobo added.

A search of the suspect, conducted with his consent, revealed a black 9mm Glock pistol concealed inside the sling bag. The firearm was unlicensed, leading to his immediate arrest.

“The suspect has been detained at the Eldorado Park SAPS and will face charges related to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Further investigations are underway, and the suspect will soon appear in court,” confirmed Khobo.
