A tragic fire in Diepsloot X1 has claimed the lives of a two-year-old child and a 26-year-old woman.

Emergency Management Services (EMS) firefighters responded to the blaze just after mid-night on January 21, where two victims, a two-year-old child and a 26-year-old woman, were found dead at the scene.

The causes of both fires are currently undetermined, and investigations are ongoing. However, EMS has urged residents of Johannesburg to take extra care when using electrical appliances to prevent similar incidents.

In addition, EMS has issued a plea for residents to ensure children are never left unattended in areas with potential fire hazards.

The tragic loss of life in Diepsloot underscores the importance of fire safety measures, particularly in densely populated informal settlements.

EMS advises:

• Always supervise children, especially near electrical appliances or open flames.

• Ensure electrical appliances are used safely and are regularly checked for faults.
• Report any fire hazards immediately to local authorities.

EMS continues to work tirelessly to educate and protect Johannesburg residents from fire risks, especially in vulnerable areas.
