SADAG launches free depression online support group
The group aims to create a non-judgmental and understanding environment where participants can freely discuss their challenges, find comfort, and learn coping strategies.

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is launching a free online support group for depression on March 28. Depression affects millions of people worldwide, impacting both physical health and emotional well-being.
Those living with depression often face feelings of isolation, hopelessness, and uncertainty, which can be overwhelming. SADAG recognises the importance of mental health resources and emotional support for those affected by this condition.
This online support group, led by Khumbuzile Buthelezi, aims to create a non-judgmental and understanding environment where participants can freely discuss their challenges, find comfort, and learn coping strategies and is open to anyone affected by depression.
Khumbuzile said she started this support group after being sexually harassed, bullied and victimised by her bosses, which led to her being diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder (MDD).
“At the time I needed support as I was all by myself, and no one I knew understood what it meant to be bullied and diagnosed with MDD.
“Recognising the need for human connection and understanding, I wanted to create a safe space where others could get support, and so I decided to launch my group.”
The first session will take place on March 28 from 14:00 to 15:00.
Future sessions will be held on the last Friday of each month, offering ongoing support and guidance for those who need it.
