Roads in Soweto closed temporarily

The closure follows the heavy rains of Monday, March 24, which forced mud, silt and debris onto the road, making it inaccessible.

The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) advises road users and residents of the temporary closure of Moroka Nancefield Road between Ellias Motsoaledi and Mncube Drive in Mofolo South.

The closure follows the heavy rains of March 24, which forced mud, silt and debris onto the road, making it inaccessible.

Both directions are closed effectively until further notice. Currently, JRA’s teams are clearing the road.

The following roads and areas are restricted:

* Moroka Nancefield Road from Elias Motsoaledi Road to Mncube Drive
* No access to Mofolo South from Klipspruit Valley Road

Only residents have access between Elias Motsoaledi Road and the bridge (no through traffic is permitted).

Alternative routes are from Elias Motsoaledi Road and Klipspruit Valley Road.

Motorists are advised to:

* Use the southern route: Chris Hani Road
* Use the northern route: Proceed via Zulu Drive, Mahalefele Road, Pela Main Road and Khumalo Main Road

JRA Spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said the JRA would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and urged road users to avoid the area and use the suggested alternative routes.

“Only residents with properties along the affected stretch will be permitted limited access. Updates will be provided once the road is reopened. Exercise caution, obey traffic officials and plan route accordingly,” Peters-Scheepers said.
