Soweto Equestrian Centre brings smiles to orphans

The community came together for a fun-filled day of excitement in celebration of the children from Othandweni Children’s Home.

Moipone Hys, Mothern Community Developers NPO founder, hosted an orphanage party for 75 children from Othandweni Children’s Home at Soweto Equestrian Centre, on March 30.

This first orphanage party aimed to bring joy, build relationships with the children, and understand and meet their needs.

The Soweto Taxi Services (STS), Mrs eSoweto Queen Pearl Muthivha, and other organisations sponsored the event.

“We are adopting orphanages, where we will assist in neglected areas. As the children get older, we want to teach them skills at a halfway house so they have a better chance of a better future,” said Hys.

The children delighted in the various activities such as horse-riding, music and dance, drama performance and face painting, creating unforgettable memories at the Soweto Equestrian Centre.

According to Sarah Mashego, a social worker from Othandweni Children’s Home, attending this event could result in a beneficial partnership where their children learn from their peers in the community and expand their experiences outside the school setting.

Maki Mosia, a member of STS, said: “As parents, we must support initiatives like this because the children from Othandweni are our children.

“We want people to know the taxi industry is not just about business; we also lend a helping hand to this organisation in need.”

Sharleen Jones, a finalist for Miss Supreme Queen India-South Africa, believes everyone should regard giving back as a top priority to the community because life’s obstacles can affect anyone.

“We must consider all children as our own,” she said, emphasising the value of showing love and care to every child.
