Klipspruit elders empowered with safety education

Unity@One together with other organizations came together to host adults and empower them with knowledge.

Unity@One, an NPO based in Klipspruit, hosted a soup kitchen for the elderly of the community on May 1.

The purpose of the kitchen was to also educate the elderly about different kinds of abuse and to raise awareness of different kinds of illnesses.

Founder of Unity@One Lerato Ntsibande expressed her gratitude to all those who made the day possible.

“Today is all about learning for bo gogo and mkhulu in our community, we have also prepared soup for them, one of our missions is to uplift and give back to our communities. This is thanks to Boxer stores for donating food and the SARC for coming out to the community.’’

Keketso Motloung, acting branch manager of the SARC Soweto branch, added that as an organisation they are focused on home-based care for the elderly.

“We were invited by an organisation that provides the same services that we do, which is to help the elderly.

“We will be focusing on testing for HIV and different illnesses among the elderly and the prevention of elderly abuse.”
