Protea Glen NPO feeds homeless children and elders on Mandela Day
The Progressive ECD Forum hosted a compassionate Mandela Day soup kitchen in Protea Glen, serving nutritious meals to vulnerable children and elderly residents, while calling for more community and business support.
In the spirit of Mandela Day, Progressive Early Childhood Development Forum (NPO) held a soup kitchen for disadvantaged children living on the streets in Protea Glen, on July 18.
Chairperson of the forum, Lerato Tshabalala, told Urban News that through the nutritious soup kitchen meal, they are striving to support disadvantaged children in their community.
She said they believe this initiative is a meaningful way to show love and care for those living on the streets, both young and old.

Beyond honouring Mandela’s legacy, the forum is committed to supporting social causes and making a positive impact.
“As the Progressive ECD Forum, giving back to the community and inspiring positive change for children is at the heart of everything we do.
“We believe that one day, every child will have a better place to live and a proper meal every night. Children are our priority not just in words, but through our actions.
“We are committed to fostering a sense of social responsibility, engaging in acts of kindness and generosity, and working to improve the health and well-being of all children,” she said.
Tshabalala further stated that their aim was to provide for children, but they were happy to see that they also managed to provide for grandmothers and grandfathers who were passing by, so that they too could have a nutritious meal.
“This shows that we haven’t forgotten about those who cannot put bread on the table. Our thoughts should not take place when it is Mandela Day, but this should be an everyday effort to all of us.

“All of us, including the public, have a significant impact on individuals, families and the community as a whole,” said Tshabalala.
