International Kota Day inspires learners at two Soweto schools

Eli Foods and Events celebrated International Kota Day with Ezibukweni and Bapedi primary schools, offering meals, motivation and a message of hope to young learners.

Eli Foods and Events (EFAE) hosted the International Kota Day charity event for learners at Ezibukweni and Bapedi primary schools on July 24 and 25.

International Kota Day sees aspiring entrepreneurs invited to showcase and market their businesses.

It is a platform for them to introduce their work to the public, a valuable channel for promoting community businesses.

Seven hundred hamburgers and drinks were donated to the learners, offering them a delicious lunch made with love, while also inspiring them through storytelling.

EFAE founder Mfundo Gasa told the Urban News that the primary reason for hosting the event was to inspire the children, as he believed sharing his story with them would motivate and uplift them.

“I wanted to show the learners that their background should not define their future. I wanted them to be inspired, to never give up on their dreams, and to always respect their elders.

“Most importantly, I wanted them to prioritise their studies and maintain a positive mindset and outlook on life,” said Gasa.

The beverages plant manager at Tiger Brands, Gordon Aboagye, said they decided to participate in the campaign by donating juices, viewing it as a meaningful way to honour Mandela Day.

“We do this annually, supporting initiatives that uplift our communities. This was one of the events we wanted to make a meaningful contribution to, and we hope to regularly keep doing so.

At the Tiger Brands beverages plant, we’re proud to support campaigns like this, especially those focusing on young people.

“The youth are important, and we hope the boys and girls we supported today grow up to become successful and inspiring individuals,” said Aboagye.

Zweli Mahlangu, the marketing manager for Helloswipe, told the Urban News that Eli Foods and Events must continue to contribute positively to the community, as their efforts are appreciated.

“This initiative must not be a once-off effort. From here, we should move into other areas across South Africa and continue to spread the message.

“It’s a powerful initiative that builds social relationships, it’s not about financial gain, but about showing love to our communities as we grow as businesses,” said Mhlangu.

The actual International Kota Day, Gasa, will be on September 6 at the Emdeni Sports Complex. Attendees can expect live entertainment, great food, good vibes and quality music.
