Gauteng Social Development grants NPOs more time to apply for funding

The Gauteng Department of Social Development has extended the deadline for non-profit organisations (NPOs) to apply for funding to October 30, following requests from organisations facing technical issues with the new online system.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development has announced a two-week extension for NPOs to submit their funding applications, moving the closing date to October 30.

The announcement was made by Social Development MEC Faith Mazibuko during her quarterly engagement with NPOs at the Orlando Communal Hall in Soweto on Tuesday, October 14.

Mazibuko said the decision followed numerous requests from NPOs that had experienced challenges with the department’s new online application system.

“Some NPOs requested an extension because they faced technical challenges with our new online application system, and we want to assure the sector that we are addressing these issues,” she said.

The MEC encouraged organisations to use the department’s alternative submission channel by emailing [email protected]

should they experience further difficulties.

Mazibuko reaffirmed the department’s commitment to improving accessibility and efficiency through digital innovation.

“Smart online applications will continue to be implemented as the department moves towards a paperless process,” she said.

“Once funded, NPOs will be required to submit their monthly reports and compliance documents online.”

The department added that the transition to digital platforms aims to promote greater transparency, accountability, and ease of access for organisations working within the social development sector.

The funding programme is designed to support NPOs that deliver critical social services across the province, including child and youth care, early childhood development, victim empowerment, and support for older persons.
