Seventeen expectant moms honoured at Eldorado Park community baby shower
Expectant mothers from Eldorado Park were treated to a special day of encouragement, gifts and wellness talks during the RySky Foundation’s baby shower.
The RySky Foundation hosted its 15th annual community baby shower at United Apostolic Faith Church, EXT 3, Eldorado Park, celebrating 17 expectant mothers and the miracle of new life.
The initiative, part of the foundation’s broader community development programmes, aims to create a support system for mothers who may not have one.
Organisers transformed the hall into a cheerful farmyard-themed venue, complete with a busy kitchen, photo booth, and beautifully wrapped gifts as volunteers prepared for the special day.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter, baby shower games, and engaging discussions on real-life topics presented by guest speakers.
Each mother received essential maternity and baby supplies, including nappies, pre-loved baby gear, baby clothing, toys, and toiletry bags. Food parcels and gifts were also provided to ensure participants felt valued and supported.
Leonardo Green from the National Neighbourhood Watch and Missing Persons encouraged parents to prioritise their children’s safety.

“Parents should make it their business to know where their children are at all times and check their cell devices regularly,” he said.
“There is no waiting period to report someone missing. When reporting a case, please ensure you have a recent, unfiltered photo of the missing person and provide as much information as possible. We wish all the mommies a happy and healthy pregnancy during their gestation period.”
A representative from the Eldorado Park Ext 9 Clinic urged expectant mothers to book their antenatal visits before 20 weeks of pregnancy.
“Early booking is vital because it allows us to conduct necessary tests, including HIV testing.
“When mothers test positive, we can start them on ARVs early enough to suppress the virus within 12 weeks, ensuring a healthy pregnancy and safe breastfeeding after delivery,” she said.

She added that the clinic educates mothers on recognising danger signs such as vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal or back pain, and swelling of the feet.

“Should they experience any of these, they must go straight to the hospital with their antenatal booklet. Unfortunately, some mothers still delay booking until seven or eight months into pregnancy, which limits the care we can provide.
“However, we are seeing positive change, as more young women are coming forward thanks to awareness campaigns and door-to-door visits.”
Other guest organisations included Fantastique Empowerment and Skills Development Academy, Elizabeth Walk Safe Haven Rehab Centre, Mr and Miss Eldorado Park, and We Are Our Sisters Keepers NPO. Guests were also entertained by Yasneem Moyco and Yunis Francis.

Founder of the RySky Foundation, Maurice ‘Carla’ Miller, was praised for dedication and tireless work, described as “a beacon of hope” and the driving force behind the success of the event.
