Gauteng Health mourns death of Bara Nursing College student
A first-year nursing student was found dead in her residence room on August 4.
The Gauteng Department of Health has expressed profound sadness following the death of a 19-year-old first-year nursing student at Bara Nursing College.
The student was found dead in her residence room on the evening of August 4 after a concerned friend requested assistance to check on her.
According to the department, security officials, accompanied by the friend, entered the room and found the student deceased.

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Forensic Pathology Service attended the scene and transported the body to the mortuary.
“The department is prioritising the well-being of students and staff affected by this loss. Counselling and psychosocial support services have been activated for students, lecturers and staff at the college,” said Gauteng Health spokesperson Steve Mabona.
Mabona added that support is also being provided to the student’s family during this difficult time.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fellow students of the late student nurse. We ask that their privacy be respected as they go through this period of mourning.”
