Gauteng online admissions for 2027 school year open on August 5
The department also warned parents against admissions fraud, stressing that no placement at a public school is for sale and that all official admissions support services are provided free of charge.
Parents and guardians of learners entering Grade One and Grade Eight in 2027 are encouraged to prepare for the Gauteng Department of Education’s online admissions process, which opens at 08:00 on Wednesday, August 5, and closes at midnight on Friday, September 4.
The Gauteng Provincial Government said it remains committed to providing every learner with a fair opportunity to access quality education through the Gauteng Online Admissions System.
According to Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile, the online admissions system has transformed the learner placement process since its introduction in 2015 by replacing long queues with a fair and transparent digital system.

Maile said the system has continued to improve through annual stakeholder feedback, with about 400 000 Grade One and Grade Eight learners successfully placed during the 2025 admissions cycle.
“The Online Admissions System is more than a registration platform. It enables us to plan effectively for growing learner numbers while ensuring that every child has a fair opportunity to access quality public education. We encourage parents to apply early, submit authentic supporting documents and make use of the department’s support services where necessary,” he said.
Parents are advised to prepare all the required supporting documents, apply to between three and five public schools, and submit their supporting documents within seven school days of completing the online application.
The department also warned parents against admissions fraud, stressing that no placement at a public school is for sale and that all official admissions support services are provided free of charge.

Parents must submit their applications through the Gauteng Online Admissions System using new login credentials, as usernames and passwords from previous application periods will no longer be valid.
The department urged parents and guardians to apply as early as possible to avoid delays and improve learners’ chances of being placed before the closing date. No late applications will be accepted.
