Department of Sport revives netball in Soweto
The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation hosted a netball tournament which saw 20 female netball teams including the U13, U17 and two senior teams taking part.

The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation hosted a netball tournament which saw 20 female netball teams including the U13, U17 and two senior teams taking part.
This tournament was aimed at improving the participation of women in sport and took place at Elkah Stadium.
Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile said the netball club development programme is formed to revive and sustain the sport.
He said it is part of improving access to sport and recreation to the people of Gauteng.
This tournament, which will be hosted in all the Gauteng regions, will assist in the establishment and strengthening of existing clubs.
One of the people who is in a mission to revive netball, Tshidi Mokoena said they are very happy to see that Soweto teams have come out to help them revive netball in the township.
“We are seeing a lot of interest among netball fanatics since our announcement that we made to call upon teams to join the competition and we are hoping to see more of them coming to participate in such tournaments,” she said.
