Training underway for the Lucas Radebe Tournament

The legendary Radebe trains the boys himself.

After the ET Radebe High School’s Tournament 2017 meeting, which Lucas Radebe attended at the Multipurpose Hall on May 3, the training immediately got under way on May 11 at the sports grounds in zone three.

The first schools to get the privilege of being trained by the legendary Radebe were Madibane and Namedi High Schools.

The energies and the morale at the sports ground during the training session were positive and the attitudes of the learners inspiring.

Radebe said, “We are just building up momentum and making sure all learners who will participate in the tournament will be in the right head space.”

The tournament is tailored especially for high schools in Diepkloof during the winter school holidays; its inception was last year and it was a success.

Since Country Wide Sport is organising the tournament again this year, Radebe said in an interview with Kick-off, ” We are hosting the tournament under the banner of Countrywide Sport, which is a sports development company that we’ve created to help young aspiring soccer players.”

The next schools to train under the legendary eye of Rhoo will be Fons and Fidelitas High School.

Last year Radebe said, “This will be our second tournament which is the ET Radebe Tournament for the secondary schools, it is in honour of my late mother because of her involvement in the community of Diepkloof, encouraging kids and getting them involved in sports.

“She had a football club, she was heading a netball team as well as a choir and a crèche, which has seen the community grow.“After her passing, we thought maybe it’s better to take a day like this,

“After her passing we thought maybe it’s better to take a day like this, Youth Day, to not only celebrate her but celebrate other stalwarts that had fallen that had contributed towards the growth of this country.”

Radebe will be training all the learners from the different schools that will take part in the tournament weekly.

The tournament will begin soon and updates will be given by the organisers.
