Most of the times it is a hassle to get funding for small business sometimes it even seem impossible.
The Mngoma Empowerment Group recently hosted a funding expo for the community of Diepkloof.
“The goal of the expo is to share the information on how to access funds from the government, private equities and introduce services offered by small companies and businesses in the community.” The founder of MEG said.
A variety of businesses and companies braced the expo in Diepkloof hall including the Managing Director of the Chamber of Business Associations Pat Mamabolo who said, “The CAB attended the expo because we want to champion and up skill small organizations in Soweto by spreading relevant information and creating networks for group buying and selling.”
Another speaker at the expo, Joel Mabuela, the author of “12 Success factors” and a traveling speaker said, “It is imperative to protect your idea if you haven’t registered it write it down and keep it a secret while you nurture it, because some people steal ideas.”
Pearl from I will succeed said, “We aim to help people in Soweto by mentoring them through our programs.”
Mphuthi Mphuthi the CEO of Soweto Business Access and once part of the task team appointed by the minister of small businesses said business owners must realize that to seek funding alone is frustrating and should learn to work together and synergies to access funding and this will make it easier.”
Mphuthi advised that people should register companies for their children and teach them business skills at a young age.
The expo was with private companies offering many services from accounting to sewing and drawing.
A resident from Diepkloof said, “This is a great opportunity especially for Sowetan’s, we have businesses that have potential, but had no information on how to grow them. Hopefully, the information I’ve gained here will propel my business forward.”
