Miss Soweto takes on celebrity cook-off
The Who’s who of the entertainment industry invade Mpumalanga for a weekend of cooking and partying.
Current Miss Soweto Buhle Xulu swapped her sachet for an apron and joined other celebrities and media personalities at the 5th Annual Celebrity Cook-Off.
Held at The Ridge Casino in Witbank, the celebrity cook-off is organised by White Star Maize Meal and brings together the who’s who in the entertainment industry for a fun filled weekend of cooking and partying.
Celebrities organise themselves in teams and compete with each other and cook up a storm for a prize.
White Star has to be the main ingredient in whatever they prepare. A few seconds to choose ingredients from a mystery basket and White Star Quick was all they had at their disposal to create a two-course scrumptious meal.
The race against time was on, as they had only less than two hours to prepare and serve their meals to the judges. They are judged by experts in the food industry who tasted their starters and main course.
Miss Soweto teamed up with Iko Mash, Lesley Musina and Chanley Wong and tried their best to impress the judges.
Their main course looked rather scary with lobster legs protruding from the plates. Team Michelin Stars made up of Vusi Kunene, Thato Molamu, Mablerh Cele and Noluthando Moje were crowned champions for the second time in a row.
Judges loved their starter which was traditional cuisine called isijingi made of pumpkin and maize meal. Their main course was pork served with pap with a twist.
“The other judges and I were definitely impressed with The Michelin Stars starter and main dish, as it embodied and displayed everything that we were looking for,” said one of the judges Siphokazi Mdlankomo.
At stake was a cash prize of R10 000 for each team member and Team Michelin Stars took it all home.
Everyone walked away a winner at the end of the day with the rest of the teams getting prizes like clocks, fitness trackers and diner sets for their participation.
Funny man Skhumba Hlophe was directing the programme and killed everyone with laughter.
“Every year we strive to make the annual White Star Celebrity Cook-Off a success, and this year was no different. Inviting the chosen celebs, along with a host of White Star’s media friends, ensured that we once again hosted a spectacular and memorable event.
“The Michelin Stars once again captivated us with both their starter and main dishes – their prize is indeed well-deserved. All in all, this year’s event was a unique experience for our fans, the media and celebrities alike,” said White Star Marketing Manager, Mokhele Makhothi.
Other notable faces who graced the weekend long event were Manaka Ranaka, Akhumzi Jezile, Phila Madlingozi and Linda Sebezo.
