Volvo lets you track your electric driving patterns

Owners of Volvo plug-in-hybrid vehicles will be familiar with the Volvo on Call smartphone app but the app now lets you gain new insights you’re your electric driving patterns. With the additional information given through the app, Volvo aims to inspire Volvo plug-in hybrid vehicle owners to drive fully electric and receive all the benefits of electric cars and sustainable mobility.

The app now displays distances travelled utilizing electric mode only and other metrics such as fuel consumption. This information can be translated into their individual CO2 footprint and fuel-spend over distances travelled and will later be done automatically by the smartphone application.

“We want the Volvo On Call app to make life easier for you as a user and create a more personal experience. As the car becomes ever more connected, the potential of the app increases and we intend over some time for the app to be as much a part of the Volvo as the car itself,” Ödgärd Andersson, chief digital officer, Volvo Cars.

Early in the introduction of the XC90 T8 Plug-in Hybrid model to the local market in 2019, Volvo Car SA brought upon a special offer in which it would refund owners based on the amount of electricity used to charge their vehicles from the national power grid last year. The application will provide owners with all values pertaining to the offer that was launched last year. The Volvo on Call application and the abovementioned functions are available for plug-in hybrid powertrain vehicles sold after 2015 and built on the SPA and CMA platforms globally.

“Just like a step counter helps people exercise more, I believe that by giving people better insight into their driving patterns, it will help them to drive in a more sustainable way. We see plug-in hybrids as ‘part-time electric cars’ that encourage changes in people’s behaviour and help pave the way for a transition towards fully electric cars,” Björn Annwall, head of EMEA, Volvo Cars.

Plug-in hybrid sales account for almost 25 per cent of the Volvo Cars’ total sales in Europe as the brand was the first established car maker to commit to electrification beyond the use of an internal combustion engine. Volvo Cars plan to launch a full range of fully electric vehicles in an effort to transform 50 per cent of all global sales into all-electric models within the next five years. Initiating this transformation is the XC40 Recharge P8 which is the brand’s first fully electric car that will start production later in 2020.
