Dube furniture shop owner in desperate need for help after shop burned to ashes with clients’ belongings

Bheki Gumbi says he will appreciate any form of donation that will assist in the recovery of his business.

Bheki Gumbi says he is in desperate need for help after his furniture sewing hub, known as Eden Furniture based in Dube burned to ashes last week Friday, October 8. With nothing left to recover, Gumbi says that on top of the whole building burning down, he lost all his equipment along with some of the furniture that belonged to his clients and he has no idea how and when he will recover from this. The cause of fire is not yet known but Gumbi suspects this was planned and done by someone who knew exactly what he/she was doing.

“I don’t even know where to start picking up the pieces because there is absolutely nothing left to recover. I received a call from one of the people who stay next to my shop around 2am telling me that my shop is engulfed in flames, at that time there was nothing I could do, it was bad. This place was not just a place where we make or repair furniture, but it was a skills training centre, I trained young people, now all that hope of developing skills gone,” Gumbi said.

“I need help, I am desperate, I don’t see myself recovering from this without help. Any form of donation will be more than appreciated, building material, old sewing machines that people are not using, anything that may assist I am pleading,” Gumbi added.

Gumbi said that some of the couches belonging to clients have been damaged with nothing left to recover and although he tried explaining and reasoning with them, not everyone understood.

“I can’t even get a hold of some of my customers to explain to them what happened, because the book with customers’ details got burned. I tried explaining to those I could reach, some understood and some did not. I had to make a plan to get couches for one of my clients,” Gumbi said.

Some people have started donating, to assist Gumbi, you may contact him on 083 730 3355.
