Thousands in electrical appliances lost during load shedding

Springs residents have lost thousands of rand worth of electrical appliances due to their power being switched on and off again during load shedding.

Power surges occur when the flow of electricity is interrupted and then started again, causing electrical devices to malfunction.

Residents are clearly not happy and had the following to say:

Nicky Le Roux says she’s suffered quite a bit of damage due to load shedding.

“I had two computer power supplies burn out and the fridge compressor too.”

Bruce Gardner responded with “the big problem is we have no clue when it’s coming, so we can’t plan ahead.”

“It’s sad that we have to try and find R8 500 for a generator to make life more normal, but one doesn’t get the money back and still has to pay higher fees for power, so it’s a real rip-off.”

Kerry-Anne Whitfield says, “My fridge and decoder have stopped working due to this load shedding, if they kept to their so-called schedules we could plan ahead, but they don’t care.”

“I have a broken PC screen and DSTV decoder. What’s next?” says Janet de Bruyn.
