Chairperson Tokkie Hattingh says the club plans more tournaments, leagues, youth development and community inclusion this year.

The Springs Town Bowling Club kicked off its social bowling for the New Year on January 3.

Speaking to the Springs Advertiser on Saturday’s social bowling, the club’s chairperson, Tokkie Hattingh, said that the club’s aim for this year is to grow its membership and participate in more tournaments across the metro.

She also said that the club will begin its Saturday leagues, in which they will play against other bowling clubs.

She added that there will be competitions that will run on the first Friday of the month, starting March 14.

“I hope our club is going to do well this year. That is what I want to see and hope for,” said Hattingh.

Hattingh shared that some of the club’s objectives for the year include drawing youth into the club and teaching them about the sport.

She said that the club approached various schools in Springs for the learners to join the club, but when they went back, none of the learners were interested.

Hattingh said they would love to have fresh blood playing on the greens.

She noted that the balls might be expensive for them to obtain, but assured them that they would use them for life.

The chairperson also said that they will be working with disability organisations, with San Michele Home in Brakpan being the first.

“Some from the home approached us asking us if the club is willing to open the doors for the patients to help them with stimulation, and we will meet with our committee and the home to discuss further,” said Hattingh.

She also said that the club aims to host a family fun day for its members and their families to see what bowling is all about.

Those interested in joining the club may contact Izak Hattingh or 083 306 2869 or Tony Tancrell or 073 372 3844.
