PFG secure win over Sibanye in Springs Corporate League clash

PFG Building Glass defeated Sibanye Stillwater 3-1 in a heated match at the Springs Old Boys Sports Ground on August 28.

Coming from three consecutive losses, this game was a redemption for PFG who occupy the fourth position on the Springs Corporate League.

“Today’s game was tough, the opponents were too offensive but we tried to maintain the pressure, score three goals to get those three points,” said PFG coach Thathi Siyabela.

The first half ended on 1-0 in favour of PFG. They scored their second goal in the second half which was countered by Sibanye making the score 2-1. PFG scored a third goal ending the fame with a victory.

Siyabela added that in the second half he decided to interchange positions to achieve a stronger left side.

“We also introduced two middle fielders that could keep the ball and pass which led to two more goals for us,” he said.

Having won the league last season, Siyabela said their main focus is to keep getting points to defend their title.

Sibanye’s coach Sibusiso Zwane said the game started off slow because they had a shortage of players but they managed to absorb the pressure.

“Factors contributing to our loss include lack of fitness and poor substitution. I made a mistake with some of the substitutions I made.

“We created chances but couldn’t convert, however, I can’t blame them, they played well but they didn’t dominate the game,” Zwane said.

He concluded by stating that despite the loss, he is happy with how the boys have been playing in the league.
