Busines robbery left one dead

A business robbery that took place at around 7pm on Tuesday in Bakerton left one suspect dead and another arrested.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, four suspects stormed into one of the shops in First Street and robbed the owner, who was inside the shop with his brother.

“One of the suspects was armed and stood waiting outside the shop while the other three were inside demanding that the owner hand over his cash,” says Capt Ramphora.

He adds that when the armed suspect noticed customers coming to the shop, he notified the other three and they ran away.

However, the shop owner and his brother managed to catch one of the suspects.

“It is alleged that when the armed suspect saw people running behind him, he thought they were chasing after him and he shot in their direction. He shot one of his accomplices, who died on the scene,” says Capt Ramphora.

The other suspect was arrested by police and they are still looking for the other two men who are still at large.
