Songstress nominated for London award

Local songbird Wandile Nkosi was nominated for the African Gospel Music Awards in London recently.

The talented singer was surprised to learn that she was nominated for the award after she was recognised for her talent after wining last years Crown Gospel Award.

The awards showcase musicians from all over Africa who compete in different categories. It took place at the Queen Elizabeth Great Hall in London.

Last year the Duduza-born singer walked away with the gospel artist of the year award at the Crown Gospel Awards, it was through this win that she was spotted.

“I was just told that they chose the best in the gospel categories and that I was nominated for Best African Gospel Jazz Artist, I could not believe it,” says Wandile.

Although the songbird didn’t win she is honoured that she was a part of the nominees.

“It’s not everyday you get nominated for such an award. Words fail to express how grateful I am,” she adds.

Unfortunately for Wandile, there was not enough time for her to accumulate the funds for the London trip and she was unable to go, but she hopes another opportunity like this will come up.

“I am disappointed that I was not there for the awards, but there was hope in me that I stood a chance of winning. The fact that I was nominated is honour enough for me though,” she says.

The mother of four hopes to touch many more hearts with her music and is currently working on promoting her music all around the country.
