E-toll’s effect on you

E tolling need not be expensive if a driver considers his or her traveling habits.

E-tolling need not be expensive if a road user is aware of their travelling habits.
How much you will pay when e-tolls come into effect depends on the payment method you elect to use.
Essentially you have two options getting tagged or registering as a infrequent road user.

Infrequent road users:

Infrequent e-road users can pay their toll fees by registering an e-toll account and by providing the vehicle licence plate number, procuring an e-tag, or by purchasing a day pass.
The pass can be purchased at a cost of R50.
It is valid for a 24 hour period after the first gantry pass for unlimited passed.
It may only be purchased for the same vehicle 12 times a year, and is only valid on Gauteng e-roads.
The pass should be purchased not more than 30 days before or on the day of making use of the Gauteng e-road.
It cannot be activated retrospectively, i.e. it cannot be used to pay toll transactions that occurred a day or more before the purchase of the day pass.
The pass is valid for the payment of all toll transactions and any number of kilometres driven on the Gauteng e-road, as per the conditions set out above.
A day pass can be purchased online or by simply phoning into the e-toll Call Centre at 0800 SANRAL (726 725).
Sanral advises that when completing your e-toll Account registration via the Call Centre, your banking details should only be entered via the touch pad on your telephone and should never be recited to an operator or by visiting an e-toll Customer Service Outlet.
Should a road user not have registered an e-toll account, or purchased a day pass, before making use of the Gauteng e-rod, the road user can pay for the toll transactions within a seven day grace period.

Frequent road user:

You can register an e-toll account through the Customer Service Outlet or by contacting the Call Centre on 0800 SANRAL (726 725).
Sanral advises that when completing your e-toll Account registration via the Call Centre, your banking details should only be entered via the touch pad on your telephone and should never be recited to an operator or by visiting an e-toll Customer Service Outlet.
Alternatively one can purchase an e-tag at any retail stores, malls, e-toll mobile vans, or e-toll centres.
On the Sanral’s e-toll website, a map is provided showing the relevant gantries as well as customer service centres, and where to register and purchase your e-tag.
A calculator found under ‘Tariffs and Discounts’ on the Sanral e-toll website will help you calculate the approximate cost of your journey based on the distance and time of day you will be travelling.
