Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says two men were scavenging for scrap metal in the open veld at around 10am on Friday when they came across the man’s body.
The men notified police and the body was taken to a government mortuary.
“It was found that the deceased, who is estimated to be 30 years old, had a gun shot wound to the head and we suspect that his murder is connected with illegal miners’ differences,” says Capt Ramphora.
A case of murder has been opened and police appeal to anyone with information to contact Springs police on 011 365 57001920.
“People who want to identify the body can contact us as well,” concludes Capt Ramphora.
