Successful women get rewarded
Afrisun East Rand Community Trust held a celebration in aid of Women's Month at Carnival City on Sunday, August 18.
The day was held to celebrate women in Ekurhuleni who have dedicated their lives in serving the community with their time and resources.
The event was a success as the 18 women to be honoured and their families came together with Afrisun, who recognised their hard work and awarded them with a certificate, a R25 000 cheque for their charities and R1 000 for themselves.
Two women from Springs were honoured, the first being Sanet Moerkerken from Springs Child Welfare, and the other being Claudette Westley from House of Hope.
“It was a fantastic event and I am so glad that Afrisun took notice of the work women in Ekurhuleni are doing,” said Claudette.
Claudette donated the R25 000 to her charity, House of Hope, which houses abused women and children. She also does work at Springs Care.
“When I found out I was nominated I was overwhelmed,” she said. “It was great that they gave us personal recognition as individual women, and not just the organisations we work at. It was a great honour and a very successful event”.
