Two men were arrested for drunken driving during the last week by the Springs police and local EMPD officers.
The first arrest was made last Thursday at 4:30pm.
A man was driving on the wrong side of the road in Enstra Road in East Geduld and nearly drove into an EMPD vehicle parked on the side of the road.
According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, the driver nearly bumped into the officers standing next to their vehicle.
“He drove off, but the EMPD officers jumped into their vehicle, chased him and managed to stop him,” says Capt Ramphora.
The intoxicated man got out of the vehicle and tried to run away, but was caught and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The second arrest was made by the Springs police on Saturday in Welgedacht Road.
According to Capt Ramphora, at 10pm, police drove behind a white Golf when they noticed the vehicle was travelling all over the road.
The officers managed to stop the vehicle near the Springs Fire Station and tried to get the driver out of his Golf.
“He was so drunk that he could not stand or talk,” says Capt Ramphora.
The officers took him to a doctor for a breathalyser test.
It was confirmed that the man was over the limit and he was arrested and locked up.
