A woman had parked her vehicle inside her driveway and was putting on the gear lock when she noticed three armed men approaching her.
According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, she screamed when the one armed robber grabbed her car keys and threw it away.
“Her neighbour heard her screams and came to her aid. He saw that the robber was holding the gun against her head,” says Capt Ramphora, adding that the man attacked the robber, wrestling with him.
The Selpark CPF, who were in the area, also rushed to the scene to assist the victims.
One of the robbers shot the neighbour, the bullet passing through his right arm, entering his chest on the right side and exiting out of his back. He was taken to Life Springs Parkland Clinic, where he was operated on Monday.
The robbers jumped into a BMW parked nearby and fled towards KwaThema.
Capt Ramphora added Selpark CPF followed the vehicle into KwaThema where the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.
Two of the robbers ran away but the driver was trapped in the vehicle and after the CPF members contacted the police, the driver was arrested.
Capt Ramphora adds the vehicle had been stolen in Crystal Park, Benoni.
A case of possession of a stolen vehicle, attempted murder and hijacking have been opened at the Springs Police Station.
“The police appreciates the efforts of the Selpark CPF in assisting them with the arrest,” says Capt Ramphora.
