Springs graduates excel
Students from Springs who attended the Hygro Chicken Farming Training College course recently graduated with flying colours.
Of the 67 students from Gauteng and Mpumalanga, 13 of them are from Springs and two of those, John Matlala and Thoko Mpapea, received trophies for the best student of the year.
EnviroServ Waste Management partnered with Hygro Chicken Farming Training College to offer community members skills in chicken farming.
Each year, community members with promise are identified and go through the six to seven week training, receiving their certificates and medals at the end of the course.
“Since 2009 the project has given people from surrounding communities the skills necessary to establish viable farming businesses.
“Through effective hands-on training, mentoring and project management, students gain skills in animal production, farm business management, entrepreneurship and marketing,” says Heibre Nel of Hygro Chicken Farming.
The goal of the project is to provide communities with skills to help them alleviate poverty and to promote sustainable economic development in South Africa.
