Battery thieves arrested

Their thieving tactics did not work for three men last Wednesday.

The suspects, aged between 21 and 31 years old, were driving a local taxi (isigcebhe) and stealing car batteries.

Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora, says the suspects were caught in action by a car guard at a parking lot not far from Shoprite in the Springs CBD.

“The suspects were stealing car batteries from parked cars, but things turned sour for them when one of the car guards saw them trying to steal from another car,” says Capt Ramphora.

He says a group of car guards chased them and they were caught not far from the scene.

Three batteries were found inside their taxi and the police were called. The suspects were taken to the Springs police holding cells.

They are facing charges of possession of stolen property and theft from a motor vehicle.

They will appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
