Many die on our roads

In the past week, the EMPD have recorded three major accidents in Springs, which resulted in five people being declared dead on scene.

Two of the accidents took place on Saturday October 26 and one on Sunday October 27.

The first, which took place on Ermelo Road at 2:14am on Saturday, was a single vehicle accidents.

According to EMPD spokesman Vusi Mabanga, a black BMW sedan driver lost control of his vehicle, in the wet weather conditions and his vehicle plunged into a tree.

A male passenger was certified dead on the scene and the other two passengers, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

The second accident took place on Wit Road at 19:10pm in which a truck and a Hyundai sedan collided.

A male driver and female passenger from the sedan were both certified dead on the scene and the driver of the truck escaped the accident unscathed.

The third accident happened on the N17 Nigel bridge at 21:14pm on Sunday.

A BMW and a Ford focus collided head on. As the BMW driver tried to jump out of his car, a third vehicle crushed the BMW driver against his car, both him and the driver of the Ford were certified dead on scene.

The driver of the third vehicle, a Mercedes Benz sedan, and his four passengers, sustained serious injuries and were all taken to hospital.

Cases for culpable homicide were opened for all three accidents at the Springs Police Station for further investigation.
