A woman was robbed of her cellphone in Pollak Park on Friday.

According to Springs spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora she was walking down Oasis Street in Pollak ark at 4:30pm, with her two children, when she was approached by two men.

One of the men was armed and pointed a firearm at her.

“He ordered her to give him her cellphone and also took off her earrings and ran away,” says Capt Ramphora.

The victim walked to the nearest house for assistance when they saw one of the robbers still walking in the same street.

Capt Ramphora adds they made a citizen’s arrest and called the police who detained the man.

* Springs police investigating officers arrested a man for possession of drugs on Friday.

According to Capt Ramphora there were looking for man in connection with drugs at 6:45pm, in Second Street, CBD, when they saw a suspicious looking man.

“They searched the man and found drugs and five cellphones in his possession,” says Capt Ramphora.

He was taken to the Springs cells and will appear in court soon.

* A truck was hijacked on Saturday.

The driver of a white Hyno truck was driving along Tonk Meter Highway at 8pm, when he heard a noise and stopped the truck to investigate.

Capt Ramphora says the driver noticed a red Toyota Corolla parked behind the truck and saw two armed men getting out of the vehicle.

One was armed with a firearm and the other with a crow bar.

“They grabbed the driver and pushed him back into the truck and ordered him to sit in the middle,” says Capt Ramphora.

They drove off and the red Toyota Corolla followed them.

The victim was ordered to get into the back of the cab and to lie down.

Capt Ramphora says the truck stopped at one stage and the victim was ordered to get into the boot of the car that followed them.

They drove off in the N3 direction and stopped again and helped the victim out of the boot of the car and left him standing there.

Capt Ramphora adds the victim walked towards Vosloorus police station to ask for help.

He was brought to the Springs Police Station, where a hijacking case was opened.

It is alleged the hijackers took the victim’s cellphone, cash and driver’s licence.

* A man was robbed in a spares shop in the CBD on Sunday.

The man was helping customers when he noticed two armed men entering the shop.

According to Capt Ramphora they ordered everyone to lie down and to hand over their cellphones.

“While lying down, someone saw more robbers entering the shop,” says Capt Ramphora.

One of the robbers tried to open the cashier’s office door, but was interrupted by his fellow thief saying he is taking too long.

Capt Ramphora adds they ordered everyone behind the counter and took five cellphones, cash, the camera system and monitor and left the shop.

No shots were fired in any of the above cases.

* The body of a man was found in front of a house in Welgedacht on Sunday.

Capt Ramphora says the police reacted to a phone call about a body in Welgedacht Road at 8am.

“When we arrived on the scene, we found the body of a man in front of the house with stab wounds to its neck,” says Capt Ramphora.

The paramedics arrived and declared the man dead on the scene.

The body was taken to the Springs mortuary.
