New leader elected for the Ekurhuleni DA
At an internal election on Monday, the new Ekurhuleni leader of the DA, Fortune Mahano, was chosen to lead the party for the next two years.

The news was announced at the last council meeting for the year on Tuesday. The DA members gave a standing ovation as it was announced followed by chants of the DA slogan, “One Nation, one future”.
Clr Fortune Mahano graciously accepted the position and gave his first speech in council as Ekurhuleni DA leader.
“Let me begin by thanking my caucus for electing me to serve as their caucus leader. I count myself privileged to be leading this caucus, a diverse caucus indeed.”
Clr Mahano promised that the DA will oppose such things as bad administration and wasteful expenditure of the Metro.
He said Apartheid, which was used to divide the country, was cruel and wrong.
“I believe that the destiny of man is to unite, not to divide. Whether you divide council along racial lines or you divide along Party lines, the fact is that you are still dividing us,” he said.
Clr Mahano made mention of the fact that it costs around R84 000 to complete an RDP house.
“With the R469 million that was wasted this council could have built more than 5 000 RDP houses.”
He did congratulate and thank officials who worked hard to roll out the solar geysers to the poor residents of Ehurhuleni.
“We cannot change the past, but we can change our attitude towards it,” said Clr Mahano.
