Toys bring joy
There is so much joy in giving, especially around this time of the year when spirits are high and the year is ending.
The Springs Rotary Club, with the help of Motorcycle Toy Run Company have put smiles on the faces of the children at the Kwasa Centre.
Each year the Motorcycle Toy Run Company collects toys in Benoni for children to be distributed to as many places as possible.
Cyclists come in their crazy outfits and adorned motorcycles to take part in the race.
The toy drive has in the past collected more than 35 000 toys for children.
The toys are then given to different organisations who donate the toys to orphanages, hospitals and needy children.
This year the Springs Rotary Club decided to give the toys they had received from the company to the Kwasa Centre.
Kwasa is home to an estimated 200 children who are vulnerable, abused or from poor backgrounds.
The children are given food and education from the age of two till seven where they attend pre-primary.
There are also older children who are under Kwasa’s care but attend school elsewhere.
Reverend Sharon Dinni from the St. Peter and St Paul Anglican Church in Springs helps run the centre.
“We are very happy about this donation and it has come at the best possible time,” she said.
She said that the centre was undergoing a transformation with a new block for Grade 1 classes to be offered next year.
“The plan is to add a new block for each grade annually until we get to Grade 12,” she added.
Rotary member Vernon Jones says the donation was heartfelt and had gone to those who need it most.
“This is a great initiative by the Motorcycle Toy Run Company and we are happy to be a part of it,” he said.
