Sentenced for statutory rape

A man (23) who raped a 14-year-old girl was sentenced to six years' imprisonment.

Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora, says Marius Woods was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment and a five years’ suspended sentence after he was recently found guilty of statutory rape by the Springs Regional Court.

Ramphora says Woods met his victim via a social network and on January 27 Woods physically met his victim after school hours.

He says Woods took the victim to an open veld in Geduld where he raped her. “We warn our communities, especially the youth, not to be friends with people that they do not know but only met them through the social networks,” says Ramphora.
