Missing manhole cover on Fourth Avenue

The Advertiser recently received a complaint from Casseldale resident, Andrew Jones.

The complaint was in connection with a leaking manhole on Fourth Avenue that has no cover.

The offending manhole can be found outside the petrol station and opposite Windmill Park.

Upon further investigation by the Advertiser, it could be seen that the manhole was leaking and that someone had shoved a car tyre into the manhole.

Whether this was in a misguided attempt to warn motorists of the obstruction in the road, remains unclear.

According to Jones, the manhole cover has been missing for nearly three weeks.

Jones also says that he has noticed that the manhole spews sewage almost every time it rains.

At the time of going to print, no comment had been received from the metro when the problem would be rectified.

The metro also failed to comment on why nothing has been done regarding the missing manhole cover or the leaking sewage.
