Ammunition found at scrapyard

Various articles were impounded by the Springs police last Wednesday.

Last week the Springs police visited various scrapyards in Springs and made a valuable discovery at one of them.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says when the police arrived at the scrapyard at 7.30am, they discovered 90kg of copper wire valued at about R10 000 as well as ammunition and firearms.

Three pistols and one shotgun as well as R1, R5, 303, 9mm and other bigger rounds were among the recovered items.

“It was then that they also came across precious metals worth R50 000,” he says.

No arrests have been made yet.

Ramphora adds, “The question remains: where were the ammunition and firearms going before the police seized them?”
