Flying tyre hits Mercedez Benz
Two people were seriously injured in an accident on Welgedacht Road, Welgedacht.
At 3.45pm, the wheel of a bus flew off of the axle of the bus.
According to EMPD spokesman Vusi Mabanga, the wheel came off and hit the Mercedes Benz right from the front.
“The impact caused the driver of the vehicle to lose control of the vehicle and it swerved in front of an oncoming bakkie,” says Mabanga.
Environmentalist Stan Madden was on his way towards Springs when he saw a tyre flying through the air.
“Everything happened in front of me,” he says, “I am still in shock.”
When the tyre hit the vehicle, Madden saw it flying over the rooftop and says it landed in front of his Nissan bakkie.
“It was the most terrifying moment, it makes you scared of driving,” he adds.
The passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured and taken taken to a nearby hospital.
Mabanga says the driver was slightly injured, but the bakkie driver escaped the accident unharmed.
