A woman was sentenced in the Springs Regional Court on Friday after being found guilty of child abuse.
A female security guard was arrested and appeared in court on March 27, 2013.
Springs spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora said she left for work and locked her four-year-old child in the room she rented.
“Her neighbours reported the matter to the police after hearing the child crying,” he said.
When the police arrived, they had to force entry to gain access to the room.
They found a boy of four alone in the room.
The woman was arrested at her workplace and appeared in court on the same day.
She was found guilty of child abuse and was sentenced to four years in prison, suspended for five years.
