Eyebrows raised over open shaft
An open ventilation shaft in an open veld is a serious cause of concern
An open ventilation shaft raised the eyebrows of Eastvale residents.
The Addie accompanied a group of concerned residents to an open field, just off Majuba Crescent, where they pointed to the open shaft.
Resident Saint Maputle, who lives near the open shaft, says it leaves him shivering to think that it can be left open.
The Maputle family has been living there for the past 10 years and are scared of allowing their boys to play in the veld again.
Saint says his sons, Thabelong and his brother Thumelo (10), are adventurers and they explore the open field.
He said until it is closed he will not rest as it is not safe.
Thabelong and his friends claim there are more holes that are open in the area.
Gold One International Limited spokesman Stevi Glendinning says following a ground inspection by their security team, she can now confirm that this open shaft does not belong to them.
“We are unaware of which company it does belong to,” she says.
It is unknown who the piece of land belongs to or who to contact as no comment was received from the metro at the time of going to press.
