Without getting any assistance from the metro with an electricity account of R25 000, Jan van der Merwe thought it best to ask for help from the Addie.
He has been struggling with getting answers from the metro since March.
Several visits later he gave up hope of finding a solution to his problem.
“After several visits to their offices and promises they would get back to me, nothing materialised,” he says.
Instead he received a final notice stating the electricity was going to be disconnected.
But he received an email from the electricity department today (July 24), notifying him the final reading taken on the old meter was wrongly entered onto his account.
Although they are still busy with the final details of the account, the final amount will be about R700.
Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, says the matter was investigated and agree an incorrect meter reading was captured on the system.
Van der Merwe believes with the Addie’s help, the problem was solved in no time.
