Subway flooded again

The subway in First Street, Springs, is flooded again.

According to Kate Makgahlela, a Springs Extension resident, it has been flooded since before the July school holidays.

They have reported it to the metro, but to no avail.

She is concerned about the safety of the children crossing over the railway lines instead of using the subway to and from school.

She said she had to cross over the railway line last week and was nearly knocked over by a goods train.

“The subway is flooded every now and again and we do not understand why the metro cannot fix it once and for all,” she says.

It is the second time since January the Advertiser has received a complaint about the flooded subway.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, says the electric motor driving the water pump that keeps the subway dry is in the process of being overhauled.

The pump is due to be installed by the end of the week.
