Festival in honour of a music legend

The event will include the Ekurhuleni Chorus, several soloists and speakers.

An event to honour international choirmaster Ludumo Magangane, will be held on August 16.

The event, that starts at 5pm in Springs Town Hall, will include the Ekurhuleni Chorus, several soloists and speakers.

This choir, conducted by Thulani Magungu, is a newly established choir composed of several choristers from all over Ekurhuleni.

Singers like Lucky Sibande, Peter Mcebi, Ntokozo Xaba, Bongani Vilakazi, Tshepo Skosana, Tshidi Poroto and Timothy Manana will also perform, as well as the pianist Willem Luitingh.

The guest speakers will include Mondli Gungubele the mayor of Ekurhuleni, Sibongile Khumalo, Dr Thulasizwe Nkabine, Charles Lesia and Reverend PSM Matsepe.

Magangane, who was born in KwaThema, has been in the music industry for more than 25 years.

Popularly known as the conductor behind the Bonisudumo Choristers and the Central Methodist Choir, Ludumo has achieved a lot in his music career.

He has been a member of the World Choir Council, an advisory board of the international group, Interkultur that cooperates with numerous professional associations, institutions and companies defending the same interests, since 2002.

Bongani Vilakazi, one of the organisers, says the aim of the day is to celebrate the success of Magangane who, through the years, kept the light burning for classical music in this area and city.

He invited every singer and lover of music to enjoy this celebration.

Entry is free and the dress code is formal.
